MISSING: BROKEN ARROWS

The term "broken arrows" often refers to disasters related to nuclear weaponry. More specifically, nuclear weapons that have been lost, stolen or improperly detonated.

Since the 1950's, there have been 32 documented "broken arrows". A majority of these documented incidents have to do with missing nuclear weaponry.

Today, there remains six active nuclear weapons that have been lost and never recovered.

We as a species tend to overlook what is not directly in front of us. Despite the destruction they may cause, we are not fearful of these broken arrows, as they are not major aspects of our day to day lives. It is for this reason that we often overlook other prominent issues, such as climate change. We continue to propel ourselves and our planet into further destruction as most cannot help to bother focusing on issues often unseen.

In order to prevent continued propulsion into the anthropocene, we must become aware of these threats and broaden our sense of observation.
